Evaluation Principles
1) Articles that have not
been published before or are not currently under evaluation for publication in
another journal and are approved by each author are accepted for evaluation.
2) Submitted articles
that pass the pre-check are scanned for plagiarism using the software
Ithenticate ( or others) .
3) Hitit Journal of
Occupational Health and Safety conducts a double-blind peer-review process. All
studies will be evaluated by the editor in terms of suitability for the
journal. Articles deemed appropriate are sent to at least two independent
expert referees to assess the scientific quality of the article.
4) The Editor-in-Chief
evaluates the articles independently of the ethnic origin, gender, nationality,
religious belief and political philosophy of the authors. He/she ensures that
the articles submitted for publication undergo a fair double-blind peer review.
5) The editor-in-chief
does not allow conflicts of interest among authors, editors and referees.
6) The editor is
responsible for the final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of
articles. The editor's decision is final.
7) Editors do not
participate in decisions about articles written by themselves or their family
members or colleagues, or that relate to products or services in which the
editor is interested. Any such submission is subject to all of the journal's
regular procedures.
Reviewers must ensure
that all information regarding submitted articles remains confidential until
the article is published, and they must report to the editor any copyright
infringement or plagiarism they discover on the author's part.
If the reviewer does not
feel qualified to address the topic of the article or is unable to provide
timely feedback, he or she should notify the editor and ask not to be involved
in the review process.
During the evaluation
process, the editor makes it clear to the referees that the articles sent for
review are the private property of the authors and that this is a privileged
communication. Referees and editorial board members cannot discuss the articles
with other people. Care must be taken to keep the identity of the referees
confidential.
Evaluation Process
Refereeing Type: Double
Blind
Double-Blind: After
plagiarism control, suitable articles are evaluated by the editor-in-chief in
terms of originality, methodology, importance of the subject covered and
compatibility with the scope of the journal. The editor ensures that the
articles are subject to a fair double-blind review and if the article complies
with the formal principles, the incoming article is submitted to evaluation by
at least two referees from Turkey and/or abroad. If deemed necessary, the
referees approve the publication of the article after the requested changes are
made by the authors.
Review Time :
Pre-Release
Author-Reviewer
Interaction: Editors mediate all interactions
between reviewers and authors.
Time Elapsed in Review: The
time until the first decision for research articles submitted to the peer
review process for review in the Hitit Journal of Occupational Health and
Safety was approximately 15 days.
Acceptance Rate: We
publish approximately 10-15% of the articles that reach our journal.
Approximately one-third of all submissions are rejected during the preliminary
review before being sent for peer review.
Plagiarism Check: Yes
– Ithenticate scans articles to prevent plagiarism.
Number of Referees
Reviewing Each Article : Two-three
Allowed Period :
20 days. This period can be extended by an additional 10 days.
Decision :
In order for the article to be accepted for publication by the Editor, at least
two referees must make an acceptance decision.
Suspected Ethical
Violation : Reviewers should report any suspected research
or publication misconduct to the Editor. The Editor is responsible for taking
appropriate action in accordance with COPE recommendations.
The Editor-in-Chief
reviews the research paper on the day it is submitted and, if he or she thinks
the paper merits further consideration, sends it to the Associate Editor for
further review. For research papers, the Associate Editor usually reads each paper
in its entirety. We aim to reach a first decision on all papers within two or
three weeks, but usually the first decision is made within a few days of
submission. If we do not think that the Hitit Journal of Occupational Health
and Safety is the right journal for the paper, we notify the authors
immediately so that they can submit their papers elsewhere without delay. The
usual reasons for rejection at this stage are insufficient originality and the
topic being outside the scope of the journal.
The next step for your
research paper is our Editorial Board meeting. The members will read your paper
and discuss its importance, originality and scientific quality. We mainly focus
on the research question to make editorial decisions for research papers. Even
if the subject of the paper is relevant to the journal's scope, current and
important, we may reject the paper if it does not have a research question. Of
course, if there are serious flaws, the paper will be rejected. Everyone
attending the paper meeting is asked to declare any relevant conflicting
interests at the outset, and anyone with a significant conflicting interest
will either leave the room or speak last (depending on the nature and scope of
their interests) when the relevant paper is discussed.
If your article is
suitable for the Hitit Journal of Occupational Health and Safety, the section
editor sends your article to two external reviewers. The reviewers make
recommendations to the editors who make the final decision. We ask the
reviewers to approve their reports and declare any conflicts of interest in the
article we send them. The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief after
the external review processes.
Some articles may also be
viewed by the ethics editor of the Hitit Journal of Occupational Health and
Safety and by third parties deemed appropriate by the editor, in cases where
serious research misconduct is suspected.
We aim to make a final
decision on publication for all articles within 4 to 6 weeks after submission.
If we propose a publication subject to revision, we usually ask authors to
revise their articles and upload them to the system within the following month.
Accepted articles are
published at https://................./nmj as they are prepared. After
publication, the articles are selected for the next issue.
Hitit Journal of
Occupational Health and Safety provides open access to articles as part of its
commitment to readers and authors. All our articles are freely available
online.
If you notice any errors
in your published article, email the editor-in-chief who will let you know if
corrections can be made.
Principles of the Peer
Review Process for the Work of the Editorial Staff
Editorials and analysis
articles written by Hitit Journal of Occupational Health and Safety's own
editors are not subject to external referee evaluation. Original research
articles are sent to at least two external referees under blind refereeing.
During this period, the roles of those editors are suspended.
Authors' Responsibilities
The author must comply
with research and publication training.
The author should not
attempt to publish the same work in more than one journal.
The author must fully
indicate in the bibliography the works he/she used in writing the article.
Editor Responsibilities
The editor evaluates the
articles in terms of scientific content regardless of the ethnic origin,
gender, citizenship, religious belief or political opinion of the authors.
The Editor conducts fair
double-blind peer review of articles submitted for publication and ensures that
all information regarding submitted articles is kept confidential before
publication.
The editor informs
referees that manuscripts are confidential information and that this is a
privileged interaction. Referees and the editorial board may not discuss
manuscripts with others. Anonymity of referees must be ensured. In certain
cases, the editor may share a referee's review with other referees to clarify a
particular point.
The editor is responsible
for the content and overall quality of the publication. It is also his/her
responsibility to issue a correction note or retraction when necessary.
The editor does not allow
any conflict of interest between authors, editors and referees. He/she only has
full authority to appoint referees and the Editorial Board is responsible for
the final decision regarding the publication of articles in the journal.
Responsibilities of
Referees
Reviewers should not have
any conflicts of interest with respect to the research, authors and/or research
funders.
The referees' evaluations
must be objective.
The language and style
used by referees should not offend the author.
Reviewers must ensure
that all information regarding submitted articles remains confidential until
the article is published.
If referees discover
copyright infringement or plagiarism in the work they review, they must notify
the editor.
A referee who feels
inadequate to review a manuscript or who believes that he/she will not be able
to complete the review within the allotted time should withdraw from the review
process.
During the refereeing
process, referees are expected to make their evaluations by taking into account
the following: Does the article contain new and important information? / Does
the abstract clearly and properly describe the content of the article? / Is the
method described in a complete and understandable way? / Are the
interpretations and conclusions substantiated by the findings? / Are sufficient
references made to other studies in the field? / Is the language quality
sufficient?
The “Preliminary Review
Form”, “Article Evaluation Form” and “Book Review Evaluation Form” used in the
Hitit Journal of Occupational Health and Safety can be reviewed on the journal
website.
Preliminary Review and
Plagiarism Scanning
The work is reviewed by
the editor for compliance with the journal's publication principles, academic
writing rules and the APA Citation Format, and is scanned for plagiarism using
iThenticate or Turnitin. The preliminary review is completed within 15 days at
most. The plagiarism similarity rate must be less than 20%. If the similarity
rate appears to be 1% and citation and citation are not made properly,
plagiarism may still occur. In this respect, the citation and citation rules
must be known by the author and applied carefully:
Citation/Indirect
Quotations : If a reference is made to an idea, discussion
or observation in a source and the cited opinion is put on the line with the
referencing researcher’s own words, a footnote mark (1) should be placed at the
end of the sentence. If the citation is to a specific page or page range of the
work, the page number should be given. If there is a reference to the entire
work, that is, if the citation is made to an extent that requires the reader to
examine the entire work, the source should be stated in the footnote after the
expressions “On this subject see.”, “On this opinion see.”, “On this discussion
see.” or simply “see.”.
Quotation :
If the relevant part of the source is taken as is, without changing the period
and comma, the quoted part is given “in double quotation marks” and the source
is indicated by giving a footnote number1 at the end. Quotations in the
directly quoted text are written using “single quotation marks”. If the
directly quoted part is longer than three lines (more than forty words), it is
shown as a separate paragraph. In order to distinguish long quotations from the
main text, it is preferable to write it in a font size one size smaller than
the normal text size and to indent the entire paragraph from the left at the
line initiation level. In the directly quoted text, some words, sentences and
paragraphs can be removed, provided that the meaning is not changed. Three dots
(…) are put in place of the removed parts. It would not be correct to write a
part directly quoted from a source without putting it in “double quotation
marks” and to be content with writing the source only at the end. If these
rules are not followed, the author may be accused of violating publication
ethics (Plagiarism) (see www.isnadsistemi.org).
Field Editor Review
The work that passes the
Preliminary Review and Plagiarism Scanning stages is examined by the relevant
field editor in terms of problematic and academic language-style. This review
is completed within a maximum of 15 days.
Referee Process (Academic
Evaluation)
The study that passes the
field editor's review is submitted to the evaluation of at least two external
referees who have a doctoral dissertation, book or article on the subject. The
referee process is conducted confidentially within the framework of double-blind
refereeing. The referee is requested to state his/her opinion and opinion on
the study he/she reviewed either in the text or to justify it with a statement
of at least 150 words on the online referee form. The author is given the right
to object and defend his/her opinions if he/she does not agree with the
referee's opinions. The field editor ensures mutual communication between the
author and the referee, while preserving confidentiality. If both referee
reports are positive, the study is submitted to the Editorial Board with a
proposal for evaluation for publication. If one of the two referees has a
negative opinion, the study is sent to a third referee. Studies can be
published with a positive decision of at least two referees. The publication of
book and symposium reviews and doctoral dissertation abstracts is decided upon
the evaluation of at least two internal referees (relevant field editors and/or
members of the editorial board).
Proofreading Stage
If the referees request
corrections to be made to the text they have reviewed, the relevant reports are
sent to the author and he/she is asked to correct his/her work. The author
makes his/her corrections by turning on the "Track Changes" feature
in the Word program or by marking the changes in the text in red. He/she
submits the revised text to the field editor.
Field Editor Control
The field editor checks
whether the author has made the requested corrections to the text.
Referee Control
The referee who requests
a revision checks whether the author has made the requested corrections to the
text.
Expansion of the Abstract
and Abstract Section
Authors of studies that
have been deemed “publishable” by both referees are asked to expand the
abstract section of their articles to 350-400 words.
Turkish Language Check
The works that pass the
referee process are examined by the Turkish Language Editor and the
Editor-in-Chief and if necessary, the author is asked for corrections. The
control process is completed within 15 days at the most.
English Language Check
The studies that pass the
Turkish language control are examined by the English Language Editor and if
necessary, the author is asked for corrections. The English language editor's
control process is completed within a maximum of 15 days.
Editorial Board Review
Articles that have
undergone technical, academic and linguistic reviews are reviewed by the
Editorial Board, and a decision is made as to whether they will be published or
not, and if so, in which issue they will be included. The Board makes decisions
by majority vote. In the event of a tie, the final decision is made by the
editor.
Typesetting and Layout
Stage
The works that are
decided to be published by the Editorial Board are typeset and prepared for
publication and sent to the author for review. This stage takes a maximum of 15
days.
